Britains World speed record challenge

3rd August 2018

Britains got it’s Water-Speed mojo working again!

Kevlar for 350mph ‘superboat’

M. Wright & Sons has donated a quantity of plain-weave Kevlar fabric to the Quicksilverproject – Britain’s bid to regain the World Water Speed Record. The material is being used in the construction of the 350mph craft’s outer hull structure.

Speaking of M. Wright’s contribution, Nigel Macknight – the project’s leader, and driver of the boat – said:

“We couldn’t be more grateful for this substantial boost to our efforts to get Quicksilver on the water. With most of the boat’s external structure already completed, we have our full focus now on the exterior surfaces.

“The graceful curves of the hull, which we’ve only seen so far in CAD, are now beginning to appear in real life. It’s a game-changer for us. A huge step forward at a crucial stage in the project’s development.”

M. Wright & Sons’ Commercial Director, Nick Trueman, commented:

“We are immensely excited to be part for this historic project, it’s inspiration taken from a legacy and here they are building a boat for a new era. Being able to assist with the supply of not only our technical webbing but also the knowledge that our products are already gracing some of the world most innovative technology makes us sure this will be a success”

The Quicksilver team is made up entirely of highly-skilled volunteers and has relied upon donations of materials, equipment, and specialist services and facilities to make substantial progress to date. Quicksilver is by far the most advanced craft of its type, the aim being to radically improve the safety aspect of high-speed marine craft.
